Ken,
Like you, I hate heavy guitars but the laminate sides (mine are about
.105" thick) add minimal weight. Most heavy guitars come from big
headblocks, tailblocks, and heavy bracing. You can do so much more to
eliminate mass by incorporating a lightweight design into those
structures with LITTLE effort. Whereas trying to make the sides lighter by
the methods mentioned seems not worth the effort. Of course, this is
just my opinion and not meant to try and convince anyone to be like-
minded. All of us have to find our own line where we feel the return is
worth the investment.
