Hi everyone

I searched the archives for threads that dealt with gap filling and still have
a few questions.

1) Hide glue is supposed to dry clear. Can I just whip some up to fill a
few gaps?

2) some gaps are along the rosette channels. I tried the sliver method in
one and it sticks out unnaturally. Will thin hide glue work here without
discoloration?

Some of these are from binding ledge chips that happened while I was
removing the back binding and will need some build-up.

James, for filling gaps on B/S wood I usually use epoxy with some sanding dust from the cutoffs of the B/S material. I just mix up a small amount of the epoxy and dump the dust in and stir well. Makes an almost invisible repair.

As far as around the rosette, I don't have a clue. I have used gap-filling CA for some pretty small gaps but it is very hard to match anything on a spruce top.

James the wood dust and epoxy will really only work on dark woods. The dust is, in a sense, all end grain so it will be darker than the wood around it.
Spruce fills are a tough one. Hesh's idea sounds pretty good. You might also try the egg white filler method and do some sanding into it. I still think you'll see them in a spruce top buy maybe I'm wrong.

Hesh, are you telling me that the best gap filler on a guitar is a mouse and an  button?  Mine are all gonna come out great!!!

Thanks a bunch. I did read about the dust/glue last night, and I think I
might try doing a few more things before trying it. This is mahogany, so
I'm afraid the dust wouldn't quite match up as Paul suggested. I'll let you
know!
