[QUOTE=WaddyT] Martin! Thats really .  Are you the artist too?  Great tone on that guitar.  Clean separation of notes with no mud.  Very good job.

yup, it's me playing, that's why I build 'em!!

so, NEARLY done with these two.....

both are for me and will be beaten to death by my 4 kids as I'll NEVER get a hardcase to fit the bass!!

the bass is a LOT louder then I hoped, I haven't tried a strap on it yet but it isn't neck heavy and plays really nicely.

back & sides are walnut, top is western red cedar.
Fretboard is fender scale rosewood, dots MOP
bridge is an offcut from the mahogany walnut lam neck
pins ebony from a generous benefactor here on the OLF
there's a standard guitar piezo under the bone saddle run straight to the jack, ready for an external preamp.
finish is Stewmac waterbased guitar lacquer

soundclick of the bass, unplugged, just me, the bass and my rubbish little mic.......

the mando plays really nicely. The bridge needs re-done as its slightly asymetrical, but it's a floater, so no worries there........ the nut isn't perfect either so I'll be re doing it too.

it's a lot "tighter" sounding than the walnut mandonaughts. it'll open up no doubt, but I personally prefer a bit more bottom end.....

ah well, it LOOKS great anyway!!
back & sides maple, binding & fretboard rosewood
neck walnut, top sitka spruce.
rosette leopardwood with maple purfling.

Well done indeed!

well, now that I've covered most of the bases (basses?) in building, what with a fretless electric bass, an acoustic bass, carved top & flat top mandos, Jumbo, mini jumbo, dread & 00ish guitars , a 6/12 doubleneck acoustic, acoustic and electric les Pauls and a bouzouki, it's not time to progress a bit with QUALITY rather than quantity.

the plan now is to make a few more mandonaughts with a range of variations...... (mandos are cheaper to make and sell better on ebay!)

pinned bridges rather than tailpieces and florentine & venetian cutaways. (just to see......)

LOADS of photos and notes and maybe even a website or ebook on how to build a mandonaught.......

I've always found that showing someone else how to do something improves MY understanding of it too.

the motto of the teacher training clooege I went to was Doscendo Discimus...... By teaching we learn.....
