I also use the StewMac base. I also have made a second base for mine, without the cut-out in front. I used the Dremel/router base to cut binding channels on my mandolin pegheads, and needed more support area than the standard baseplate provided. Made a replacement out of model aircraft plywood, and the problem was solved. Will now make one of aluminum.
Another thing - if you're using the edge guide on the StewMac router base on something that's relatively thin (like, say, a mandolin peghead) the edge guide hangs too far beneath the surface of the base to be useful. At the hardware store I found a nylon spacer I could cut to use as a smaller roller guide, and a #4 screw with a nut, and reverse the edge guide roller so it extends upwards from the little support arm instead of below it. This prevented me having to spend $38 on the new adjustable StewMac binding routing attachment.
