I thought I would see if anyone could name this wood. It would have stumped me(at least I have never seen this figure inthis wood).

Wood #1 with bearclaw figure(not sure if that would be the correct name for the figure, but that is what it looks like to me).

Now here is a second one that should be more familiar.

I do know the species. I am curious what you guys figure these two pieces are. I will confirm when someone guesses correctly.

Peace,Rich

Looks like Goncalo alve also known as Tigerwood in the USA. Doesn't come in a true bear claw figure, but I've seen that one fairly common. I have (or have had) Tigerwood on fiddleback, quilt, flame, pommele and a few other figures. Nice bass fingerboard material.

I'm a second for Goncalo. I made a guitar with a set that looked just like the second picture.

Well there is no fooling Larry . They are Goncalo Alves. I had never seen the figure that looks similar to bearclaw(at least in GA), but thought it was kinda cool.

I think I will make some back and side sets, fingerboards, and maybe even some binding with these. The colors are really rich(both pics above are bone dry). Very dense and hard wood.

Peace,Rich
