I recently bought some of this wood. It seems very nice. It is somewhat dense ( although I have no real way of measuring the density accurately other than tapping the 2" thick blank and comparing it to Mahogany and some Primavera blanks I have). The blank I have, is going to become an Electric guitar. The wood is very expensive - $80 board foot. Anyone have a good, cheaper source/supply? Has anyone built with this wood? TIA

I noticed that LMI os carrying Kauri now. Kinda curious about it myself. The acoustic sets were priced reasonably enough.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for that info I will call Chris and see what he says. I guess part of the expense in the Electric blanks is that the wood cracks when drying easily. So I guess they have problems getting blanks thick enough without the splits, hence the High cost.

Dave,

Laurie Williams is the obvious name that springs to mind. Why don't you e-mail him?

This guitar of his in flamed kauri is at Dream Guitars with a sound sample played by Al Pettaway:

Hesh,
Allied has some monkey pod on page 4. I bought a set from LMI a couple of months ago, but it's not in their new catalog.
