I`ve been gone a week so I probably missed a lot of good stuff.Anyway a question.Has anybody used Liberon`s pre-mixed French Polish? If so , can Everclear alchohol
be used with it?If I`m understanding correctly it seems to be a 3 pound cut, instead of a 1 pound cut ,which most people seem to use, and does this make much of a differance?        & nbsp;         & nbsp;Glad to be back,

James, I know Colin S uses the Liberon Pale blonde and really likes it. Here is a thread from the archives. There are other links as well so you might want to do a search.

Oh yes I love the Liberon pre-mixed Special pale FP. I've used it on number of instruments now and get as good if not better results than I did with my home brew shellac.

I've French polished a lot of guitars over the years (just finished one), it's the only finish I use, and the Liberon is my finish of choice.

For bodying I load my muneca in the ratio of 9 drops of the liberon polish to 6 drops alchohol, to the inside, and just a finger smear of walnut oil on the outside. With my size muneca it just gives the right touch. For glaze coat obviously more dilute.

I used Liberon Pale Blonde french polish on my cittern. Easy to apply, great, great stuff. Apply it with care with the usual muneca, and it dries to a glass-like finish. No fuss whatsover.

I am really pleased with the results and am going to order the smaller 250ml bottles each build, because I am not sure about the stability of the stuff in storage, once opened.

I love the smell of the stuff too...

I use what is know over here as Industrial Methylated Spirit. Just regular ethanol. DNA would be fine, just no additives, the alcohol is going to evapourate away leaving just the shellac, so you don't really want any additives to be left behind. In the UK it is not possible to buy pure IMS, all our 'meths' comes with additives. I'm lucky in that I have a huge University lab at my disposal .
