This weekend I met a craftsman who uses Mun Ebony for his figures. The figure is beautiful and interesting and it has a wonderful ringing tone. Has anyone built a guitar with this wood, and if so what is your opinion to use it as tonewood?

I've got one in my que. I should be working on it by Sept.
I've done some of the earlier stuff on it like a rosette, and a bookmatched fingerboard. It's a great wood to work with once you get over the expense.

Paul, that's about the coolest fretboard I've ever seen!

I believe that Mun Ebony is also sold as Malaysian Blackwood.

Looks a lot like the macassar ebony I have. Paul, that FB is outstanding. Wonderful job of bookmatching.

One of our sponsors (AC Woods) has a good selection of Mun Ebony on their site. Spectacular looking wood, but at the price I was too nervous about cracking a side to buy a set.
Anyone have any experience in bending this stuff???

Gee Bob, how come you didn't list the sub-species on that Malaysian Blackwood? We knew it was a diospyros......
