We're beginning the dog days of summer here in Arkansas, lawnmower's buzzing, sprinklers going, and everyone who can get out of town is on vacation.  I called my heat and air guy, he's on the beach in Gulf Shores, I called my accountant and she was in Paris France.  I did the road trip to Colorado and that will have to suffice this year. 


Just wanted to thank our hosts for allowing us to have a wonderful swap meet, what a deal.  Thanks Lance and Brock!


Oh, and I wanted to float the idea of having another.....

I think they mentioned having another one later in the year. Twice a year seems like a good idea(too many would probably take away from the event).

I think this is a good time for people to give Luthiers Auctions some deserved attension. It is such a great idea, but has not really taken off yet. Lance and Brock mentioned it would be Ok to drop a note on the board when you list something(which will certainly catch plenty of attension). I wish I had time right now to list some stuff, but I am moving my shop. As soon as I get time I WILL place items there to help build interest . We asked for a place to trade, and Lance and Brock gave us a better format than we could have hoped for . Now we need to use it, and make it a success.

Rich, I think the format of the swapmeet is just so attractive to the buyer, because it's a live environment.  The Luthier's Auction is somewhat static and that works against it.  Another thing working against the Luthier's Auction format is that everyone already participates in another auction type system that is reliable and works well.  The swapmeet is like going to a garage sale for luthiers.  You must rise early and move fast.....  I love the deals I got.

Being pretty new at all this, I was pretty enamored with the Swap Meet in the format in which it was conducted.  There was enough action and banter to make you decide and make your move, but not so much pressure to win, as in an auction.  Auctions, by their very nature, are more combative, and competitive.  The banter in the swap meet makes it fun.  Comments and responses back and forth made you feel good for the other person who got the deal more than it made you mad that you didn't get it.  Also, auctions tend to push prices up for quality merchandise like we saw in the swap meet.  That might be good for the seller, but not necessarily for the buyer or trader.  Hopefully, the sellers priced at levels that were good for quick sales, and at a profit, though, good deals for the buyers.  That's sort of a win win, isn't it?

Thanks Bruce. Sure, we are up for another. I think as soon as everyone has enough pent up "stuff" and "demand" we can do that.

This one was kind of impromptu, we launched it because everybody seemed to be in the mood for one, but I would like the next one to be a bit more planned so we can get more of the sponsors on board -- it is great when they clean out their closets and put stuff up for sale too.

James Bruce in the flesh.  I was getting a little heady with my numbers approaching a Serge-one-Month level....  so I divested myself and am once again the humble wood sander......
