I'm not sure if someone answered this, but on Kevin's (Ryan) guitars, it looks like the binding just widens over the armrest and then thins back out on the other side. So the armrest is veneered with the binding material to achieve the effect (and it's really hard to find the joint on Kevin's work)

Tony,
I just got approval to make one on an upcoming build.
I'm new to building so I want to be sure to give credit where credit is due.
Can I publicly acknowledge Grit Laskin and you as the developers of this?
Do I need to get permission first?
If it doesn't work out, can I blame you?

Absolutely Steve .. Grit is THE man. He has copyrighted the names Laskin Armrest and Ribrest. Other than modding his design approach, I have no rights or take no credit - nor wish any - but thanks just the same. I did contact Grit (and have met him around here a couple times, he lives about a half hour away here in Toronto), and he has no issues with anyone making guitars with either rest - he would however appreciate the use of the names Laskin Armrest and Ribrest. Send him a picture even when you are done, he is a most gracious and giving person.

Sure go ahead and blame me when it doesnt work out . Then get the bondo and black paint ...

That ribrest seems to be the same color as the binding. Did you veneer that area?

Ah .. no .. that one is a spanish cedar block, very brown braz B&S .. so I tinited the lac to that shade and sprayed the colour coat after getting the first 5 or 6 down, and then flat sanding them. Then shoot another 5-6 over it (and the rest of the body) and be careful not to sand/buff thru to the colour coat. I did the same on this one, the block is mild curl soft maple, and the B&S are coco, then sprayed the block to match in, as I didnt want it to stand out, but blend in.
