Henry Lowenstein and partners purchased the festival and will locate it in Miami in April 2008. They also purchased the 13th Fret Forum. See Miami Herald article and audio interview:

Here

He is very enthusiastic about the project and I hope it will be a success.

I know I'll be there!!

Thanks Keith.  I've never been to Miami, but I could dig it.

Good luck to Lowenstein and the Newport Guitar Festival.

And fond tidings to Julius Borge, it was his baby, now all grown up.

Bummer. I was hoping it would stay "local". It was a nice event here every other year. Now there's nothing really in the northeast again. I work only 20 minutes from the Newport event location, and live only an hour away. I doubt that I will ever attend the Miami event unless I go back to building seriously again and somehow get invited to participate. A truly unlikely occurance.

On the bright side, the gentleman who purchased it and is moving it to Miami seems like he will be good for the event, as he is a coolector and wants to see it succeed for a number of good reasons according to the article. I hope it really succeeds.

I'm happy for Julius though, as this continues his fine work in getting this event going. I know he was overwhelmed by it at times, and wanted to get out from under running it but still see it continue.

Keith,
Thanks for the info. I'll be there. Are you back home?

Does anyone have contact information for the new owner? I would like to apply for a table at the April Festival.

If it's moving to Miami, then surely it can't be the 'Newport' Guitar Festival? It'll be the Miami Guitar Festival or am I missing something. Weird.

Colin
