Did a couple of recordings of the Myrtle OM last night.

This is Martin Kelly playing in DADGAD. Strings are a standard set of 12 to 53 lights so no custom guages to accomodate the dropped tuning.

The first tune is Marty doing some noodling so it hasn't got a name other than Marty Noodling

The second is a tune of his own called The Donegal Pearl Diver

Recorded with a couple of Rode NT5's in Protools with flat EQ and a touch of reverb.

Man, that sounds really nice.  Even balance all across the spectrum.  Clean highs and nice balanced bass.  Sounds wonderful.

Who was that masked man?! Noodling? NOODLING? NOODLING?

Well, Martin Kelly must have been playing quite an exceptionally well-made and well set-up guitar to have been able to merge with the guitar, and together with the guitar, to evoke that level of emotion. Please put me on Martin Kelly's mailing list, and I'll buy the CD as soon as it comes out. And, sign me up for the Bob Connor fan club! Double Wow!

Bob, be proud of yourself. This is a fantastic guitar! Martin seems to be able to play this guitar with great ease and fluidity- which is testament to your great work. I really enjoyed the sound clips.

Dunno which I'd prefer Bob, to be able to build a guitar that sounds like that, or be able to play like your mate Marty

Great sound clips Bob. I'd be proud of that one. And I'd love to be able to play 1/2 as good as that.

Get Marty to do some egg fried rice with those noodles Great playing. Which part of Donegal is he from (or have connections with)? My great friend Pat has a house in Burtonport and it is just so stunningly beautiful there (when you can see it). My fondest memory was playing in an all night session in a little pub somewhere in the back of beyond.

We're very pleased with the way this one has finished up.

Hesh - as we spoke the sides are thicker than we usually do them and the back is quite thin(.080)so you can feel the vibrations quite noticeabley when you are playing it. The Ervin theory seems to work for us so any variations from hereon in will be based on stiff sided monocoques.

Dennis there is also another bloke who builds with me, Dave Mainwaring so we need to give him a pat on the back as well. (he'd probably prefer a Guinness)Marty plays in a Traditional Irish trio with the fiddle player
who also plays in a band with me. I think he may have some material recorded so I'll find out if it's available. He's agreed to record demos for all our new guitars so you should hear more of him posted on the OLF.

Sam - we tried a few things differently in the setup of this one. There's a little more arch in the saddle radius and I finished the frets before they were pressed into the fingerboard. I just can't seem to get the dressing of them as I want it if I do it after they have been installed. The action is very low with no buzzes which is something we haven't achieved before.

Paul - I'd give body parts to be able to play like that.
He wanted to buy that guitar on the spot but it's already been sold so we're going to build something for him.

Interstingly not many Australian builders are using Myrtle. In fact one well known luthier here has derided it as being unsuitable. He must have had a bad day when used it.

Bob & Dave that is a little ripper!!! I dream about building guitars that sound like that..

Also Bob just curious to know if you have  built with QLD Maple ? What do you think it would be closest too soundwise when compared to the more  traditional tonewoods?
