   This bracing pattern is the result of two things - a nice redwood top I got from Don Williams a while ago that was noticeably stiffer along the grain than acrooss, and the fact that I had just played two Laravees that were very nice sounding guitars (haven't always liked them but these were excellent). So, as an experiment, I dropped the X down a little from the soundhole and opened the angle a little. I stole the idea for the lower bout bracing from our Canadian friends, just adding my own (curverd) spin to the shape. I knew from my furniture making that bent laminations are very stiff, so I figured I could go with samller cross sections for these braces.
   Anyway, it did even out the stiffness, and the top is sounding really good, so I have high hopes. Since I am doing this as a test, and just working on it in the evenings it may be a while before I know if this theory actually turns into a good sounding guitar ( a OOO 13 fret).

I will be interested to hear it turns out. Being Canadian, and liking many of the Larrivee's I have heard, I use his bracing as a basis for my guitar(s) as well.

I can't begin to tell you how many years I've thought about doing that same exact thing with bracing the tonebars. Please let us know what you think about it when it's done.

After careful consideration of your pattern, I predict a small peak between 1635 Hz and 1674 Hz.

Paul - How did you laminate your tone bars?

My only two factory 6 strings that i have are Larrivee's - an L-9 and one of the original very plane parlors. So I'm
very interested in elaborations of the symmetric bracing.

I actually made a 000-13 with bracing almost identical to this one....it sounded fabulous, I'll bet yours will too.

Jim - I bandsawed the curve on a piece of 3/4 MDF to make the form, then glued up three pieces of 1/16" spruce and clamped them to the form, using three strips of 1/4" masonite as a caul. I wax the form and the inside caul so they won't get stuck to the spruce. I used LMI glue, and let it dry overnight - almost no springback.

Neat! I too like the nice clean underside - no glue and no evidence of sanding anywhere. 13 fretters and 000s are favorites of mine, so please post pics when done.
