Filippo my friend I use Festool papers and am pleased with them.

I use Rubin at 120 and Brilliant at 220 and this does all that I need to do.

I use Ruben, Brilliant, and Platin through 2000. Haven't actually used the
Platins yet, but very soon. Very soon. As soon as this final paper is over,
actually.

With the vac, the papers are very long lasting and leave a finer surface
than the Norton or 3M I've tried in the same grits. They're also less
expensive and absolutely stick to the sander's velcro. Norton and 3M
used to fly off my Porter Cable so frequently that it was like they had their
own acrobatic dreams.

James do you plan on using the Platen paper for sanding lacquer?

Well, it seems like an apt way to describe it! lol

Once I finish leveling a finish on my current guitar with Brilliant 400, I'll
go to Platin 1000, and platin 2000 after that. My sander came with a
booklet with suggested sanding schedules for different materials and
finish types, and this is what it suggested for high gloss lacquer finishes.

James, thanks. Let us know how it goes if you could. My good buddy Hesh talked me into ordering a Festool CT22 and the 5" ROS.

Filippo...sounds like you could comfortably split the order with a friend and still have too much.

Filippo, that 100 pack is all of $35, right? It's actually an extremely good
deal if you think about it. I bought two five packs of either 120 or 150
(can't remember) and 220, along with a 100 pack of 400.

I use the Festool papers, Rubin up to 120 and Brilliant from there - I don't normally use the sanders after finishing, preferring instead to flatten and rub out by hand.  I will vouch for the quality of the sanders and papers, and the dust extraction is amazing - best I've ever used....

 

James, I'm definitely waiting on a report from you regarding the 1000 and 2000. If it works for you, I'm dropping the dime and going that way myself.

A buddy of mine says it "should" work, but that the lacquer dust will clog the paper. But he's never seen the Festool, and I think it'll fly.
