What's the different Koa and Mango wood ?

Koa is from a Koa tree and Mango is from a mango tree.

I've never had any mango wood but it sure looks nice and from what I've been told it has a similar bright sound. "Somewhere between Koa and Maple" was what the guy told me.. Whatever that means It's all so subjective. Just build with it because it looks awesome!

I built a Parlor with mango last year, at the customer's request, and have
made around 40 guitars with koa. The mango was remarkable in that it
was as stiff across the grain as it was along it -- or should I say, as
flexible? All three sets I had were similar, though they were not from the
same supplier or tree. I was pretty unimpressed and a little stumped
about bracing something that unusual.

It required a LOT of filler and soaked up lacquer like a sponge. After
much work, it looked good, lots of interesting color and figure.

The guitar turned out better than I expected. I'd say it was more like
mahogany than the stiffer koa. It wasn't loud but had a nice sweetness. It
wasn't particularly bright though the upper register was clear and full.

I don't think that mango will be a regular thing for me but I wouldn't
hesitate to use it if I found a particularly pretty set.

i'm an ignoramus when it comes to biology, but koa is in the same family as the acacias, and is very similar the black acacia, a.k.a. australian blackwood, which is becoming so popular as koa gets to be so expensive due to the protection finally afforded it.

mango is a stone fruit, but i wouldn't know if it was related to peaches or what. and i can't remember the correct term for that class of fruits.
