I bet I am the last member to stop using a knife to trime off the excess overhang from the top and back plates.

Last night, on a particularly tough piece of honduran rosewood that my knife just skated over like it was a piece of steel, I decided to chuck up a carbide flush trim bit in the old laminate trimmer and see what happened.

Whoo. A minute later I was done. I am wondering now, 1. what took me so long
2. What else do I need to do to trim time.

We need a post of most important time saving tips from member luthiers to help me come the rest of the way into the last century.

Congrats John! I too did that with my last two guitars, except I used my LMI binding machine, still worked the same, took 5 minutes and the top and bottom was trimmed nice and clean. Before that I was using a hand plane and chisels, Oh, and lots of elbow grease, not to mention time!

I agree, a timesaving thread is a good idea
