I'm not there yet, but had a thought I wanted clarified. After all finish is applied and you are waiting 2 weeks or so to buff out, do you leave it strung up under tension or back off?

Ron, it's easier to buff out before you actually glue on the bridge and fretboard extension...it will save you a lot of hassle.

i finish and buff out in two pieces, i.e., neck and body. it is just so much easier to buff out that way. because i am a troglodyte still using a dovetail type m&t, no strings have even approached it yet.crazymanmichael38660.6379398148

I do as Don and Michael do. I even do as they say.
But you know, one could glue on the bridge, etc, string it up, and if it was a dog, you could forget the finishing process, and save that valuable time for a better attempt.

While waiting for the finish to cure, I do a sanding around the bridge area with 600/1600/2400/4000/8000 micromesh which ends up looking buffed. The I go ahead an bolt my bridge using Stew Mac bridge bolts. Bolt my neck and work on nut, saddle, fretting, action etc. Then when I am all done, I take er all apart and do the final buffing and reassembly.
