I was just talking to John How about this:

One day I was reaching way in back of my go-bar deck that was on my bench and a new lazy susan bearing that was on my pegboard nearly hit me in the head .... DUH!

So I took the bearing and attached it to the bottom of the go bar deck. Do I need to explain more ... so simple. Gotta love it.

Thank you JohnO, I'm gonna make me one too. My go-bar deck is just like yours, a top and bottom attached by threaded rod inside 1/2" conduit tubes. I'm gonna look into making some of those cool spring-loaded gobar sticks too.

John do you have to chase it around when you are putting in the sticks? Do you have a locking mechanism to keep it from turning? Just curious, I got a laugh thinking of me spinning my deck as I tried to put it together.....

Here's another variation on the same theme; this technique is so fast and simple, yet it's elegant and effective...

No, I don't lock the deck from spinning and is not a problem, but I use the spring loaded sticks so there isn't too much radial movement when I set the sticks.

Got a pic of one of 'em? and the Exploded view? John, also is that 1/2 inch EMT (electrical metallic tubing?) What keeps the pieces together when not in the deck?

P. S. That's a good looking back, what is it Taz, Koa? I like it John.Dickey38386.7937615741

Nope, no photo of them taken apart.

It is really simple though, a screw driven through the pipe near one end of a piece of pipe (8" long or so.) Yes it is the electrical pipe. The screw is just there so the spring has something to rest against. Drop in the compression spring, then the dowel.

The thing that holds them from falling apart is also simple .... I just lay them down on top of the go bar deck when I am not using them.

The back is Brazilian. I took these photos last year, as Larry Breslin created this double-top (Nomex) cedar classical for me. Here are some post-construction photos of the back after the clamping and finishing effort:

You can see many more shots of the entire construction process on my website:
