Speaking of brown I just cut some nice chocolate brown wenge bindings that would look nice.

I agree with Ron. Number two with an inch out of the center.

Bob,
I liked the first one at first glance, but would choose it hands down ag=fetr seeing the profile laid out on the wood. All of that character down the middle of the back is what i really like.

I'm with Brock on the Cocobolo bindings too.

First one, Bob.
You could also bind it with some Zebrawood.
I've got some here the exact color of that brown center, which would tie things together nicely.

Pretty stuff, for sure!

Still #1. I'd also take the sides and get the dark side (ooohhh) toward the top. My $.02

Serge I have never used it for necks but I suppose you could. specific gravity is close to hard maple. Lots of pore filling to do.

Wow thanks for all the replies. I didn't take an actual count but it seems to be split pretty evenly. As they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I'm sticking to #1

Thanks Bob,

i compared your pics with mine and they seem to be of the same family albeit mine probably would be fraxinus nigra(yours would be the white kind Right ?)and would explain the darker grain that's on mine. Nonetheless, Alain Desforges is going to have a look at it next week to make sure.

If my memory serves me well, i think that fraxinus nigra grows near lakes and river banks, in high humidity levels

If this is the case, would you still recommend it, let's say in a three piece laminate neck ?

TIA, Serge

I can't really make a decision. It would depend in part on the coloration of the side sets. Put me down for one of each.

Serge black ash is about 10% lighter in weight than white ash. Like I said I have never used ash for necks but I suppose a laminated neck made from ash would work.
I know it works just fine for back/sides.

Bob,at first, when i found it, it looked like maple and felt has heavy and dense. I think i'm gonna give it a try for laminate necks, since i got an entire dresser of it, seasonned from 1956!

Thanks again Bob!

I still like #1. Looks great with the darker wood running down the center.

When I try to decide something like this, I lay the form over the set. That way, I see only what the guitar will look like, since the form blocks everything else out. Drawing the outline does little, since the eye still sees the rest...

Makes a world of difference to my eye...

I'd need to see the sides with this back in order to decide. If the sides are all light colored, i'd put ths dark stripe in the center; if the sides have some dark to them, I may reverse it.

It all works together...

Mario sides do have some dark in them. I think I'm going to cut a template out of black poster board to lay on the backs. That would give the same effect your talking about. Thanks grumpy
