You can't go wrong with good stuff, Bob!! I've always bought directly from the importers, but the fall down (from best quality) can be high at 1,000bf units....narrows...cracks....excessive bug holes (bug holes are not a defect in this species), plain wood...etc. The Ambrosia beetle is responsible for most of the bug holes that develope pigment scars. It's the same one that responsible for "Ambrosia" maple. Not all the neat black and orange stripes have bug holes. This black limba set is from the more dense, heavier stock and the white limba is on one of my own guitars. I've had orders for Weissenborn sets and Flamenco sets soit's versatile with careful selection for density.

One of the unique things about the OLF membership is it's collective acceptance of "alternative" acoustic woods. It's a really fun experience here and I've learned so much in six weeks hanging out. Thanks back to you Bob and all the other members for their shared knowledge.

By the way that white limba guitar has a solid BRW neck and .75 thick bookmatched amboyna burl top

Yeow! That's some gorgeous white Limba. I'm going to have to do a bit more serious digging through the large pile of 8/4 stock at the local lumber yard...no black, but they've got lots of white, and it's really stupidly cheap....

Well, for sure don't enlighten 'em, Mattia!

Larry that's one thing I've learned the hard way. Lot's of waste in buying exotic hardwoods. Not like going to Home Depot and buying a 2" x 6" x 8' Good thing my next door neigbor has a summer place at a nearby lake and takes plastic bags full of scraps for their campfires.

Hey John, that is b -u- t full wood you got there, did you think of a theme for that guitar ?

Serge
Serge-

This was a set on eBay that someone else won (they outbid me). I just saved the picture because it was so pretty. I do have some wood that is similar but it doesn't have orange streaks that big. If I can get into my stash and take pics of it, I'll post them for you. If the Zootman starts selling Limba sets do get some - it really is nice stuff.

Peace-
Hey John, That is a set that I sold a couple of years ago on E-Bay. I still think I have a couple of sets with the orange, but not as much as that one. Have a pile of the regular black stuff, though.
