One that Al Carruth told me about was the plastic rings you get from a six pack. They are the exact same width as a fret slot. After slotting, fill slots in with the plastic and remove after the fretboard is bound. Saves scraping glue out of the slots. I haven't tried this yet, bit I will.

I think my 2 most valuble tools in my work shop are "my son and my grandson" you know what they say---a family who makes sawdust together..............
