After watching John's video yesterday on bending binding or binding bending, I remembered something from my past. About 20 years ago I was into model ship building and I had a tool that was made for bending ship planks (same as binding). So I dug through all my stuff and found that tool. I haven't plugged it in yet, but it worked well years ago and seems to still be like new. Thought someone might have one, though I've not seen any mention of it here, or might like to find one and try it. You just wet the wood and place it in the bender, plug it up and bend. Can't wait to try it when I bind my peg head.
It will take binding up to 3/8" wide.

This one came from Model Expo in New Jersey, about 20 years ago.

I'm making a pair of dreds for my sons. Cherry b/s again, sitka top, all ebony trim again. All inlay (except my owl) will be gold MOP, with gold Schallers and ebony buttons. Got some real nice curly cherry from Steve at Colonial.

I'm doing the necks now, actually making four necks at the same time, since the machining is all the same.

By the way, all, the bender in the picture was made in Torino, Italy. Thought that was kinda neat. Luigi might be able to find them for a song.

Yep I am a RC pilot also, Monocoat is a brand name for a mylar with heat sensitive backing. I have an iron that has a slight curved edge. but it only gets to 160 deg not hot enough to bend binding very well. but perfect for Monocoat

My monocote iron must be old (like me) because it gets a lot hotter than 160 degrees. Mine sizzles water very nicely, and chars MDF if layed on the workbench. I use it to bend herringbone right on the guitar as i install it. I've also used it to remove bridges, and fretboard extensions.

I got an older iron that was realy designed for fabric. It to gets nice and hot but my curved one is about two years old and just gets hot enough to contract the mylar.
