Have been seeing a lot of references to routers and lam trimmers and thought I would mention this little jewel. The variable speed and soft start are great features and 1 hp doesn't hurt. Will never be a 3HP router but should do many luthier oriented jobs well.

I bought one to try it out. It is certainly a nice router but doesn't hold a
candle to the Porter Cable 310. I won't use it except for general shop work.

I have several DeWalt trimmers and they are okay. I purchased one reman and that was a mistake, it has bearing noise, so it may not have a happy life.

I use PC for everything else.

I have a bosch colt with the variable speed and the different base kit and I love it, haven't tried the PC310.

   I have a bunch (8) of PC310s as well as a dozen or so Hitachi TR6s which offer very good adjustability and power as well as durable tight bearings. I'm going to pik up a Colt to try it for lighter stuf, though.

   I also keep four pretty heavy units here for general shop work and hogging out material.

Another good alternative is the new Ridgid trimmer. Variable speed with electronic torque compensation, soft start, solidly built, and it comes with a fence and a bearing guide--all for a hundred bucks! Oh, AND a lifetime warranty on just about everything (including the brushes!). The only downside is a crude, hit-or-miss depth adjustment, but I can stand a little extra fiddling to get such a nice tool for its price. I like mine. If they come out with a plunge base, they've pre-sold at least one!

Anyone know where I can get an Hitachi TR6? Amazon doesn't have them now. They have an adjustable base and I've read that they are OK for binding/purfling ledges.
