Bridge plates sometimes wear out at the string holes, so I like to make them removable. Untucked.

Don't some (or all?) pre-war or pre-'50 Martin have the bridgeplates neatly
tucked under the x-braces? Yeah it's really hard to repair… Hard enough
when the bridgeplate is not tucked.

I've never tucked them but you do have me thinking. Since the bridge plate is the source for most of the vibration (sound) transmitted to the box then maybe there is something to tucking the plate under the x-brace? Like maybe better transmission to the top through the x-braces? Could be something there.

What do those of you that know about such things think?

Apparently there are no tuckers here. You know what that means? I'll have to tuck one myself! The more I think about it the more T think there is something to it.

I don't tuck. Joe, I don't think it will buy you much as the bridge is also a structural brace, also crosses the x-brace, and much larger than bridge plate. I look at the bridge plate as insurance that the ball strings don't pull into the top. It is the bridge driving the top, not the bridge plate. Of course, I'm usually wrong
