I've wondered what the cheaper replacement tuners for National Guitars look like. Look at the bottom of this page: http://www.nationalguitars.com/accessories.html

The more expensive "Vintage Style" tuners have engraving on the plate, which you can see better at Elderly Instruments' site: http://www.elderly.com/accessories/items/NVT1.htmTomS38804.6997337963

John, if I'm not crazy, (which is a big IF) I think Gotoh makes some like what you are seaking. I once bought some black chrome 3 on a plate tuners from them and they had no embelishments on them.
Hope that helps.

It's very possible that they do but I sure can't find them. And they don't seem to see the need for a web presence.

Grover has a three on a plate style, but not open back. In horizontal and vertical. They have the little cover with the oil hole.

I liked those Elderly National type, good looking even with the engraving.

The Grover three on a plate are Kluson style. Elderly has those made with the Kluson name on them, still covered like the old Gibsons had.

Another thing that Elderly had was interesting, Waverley tuners. I thought that was a StewMac exclusive? Bruce Dickey38804.7650694444

I've looked hard for something like what you're describing, John, but the only ones I found were of such poor quality that they're not even worth mentioning. How I wish Waverly would make some nice, but simple, 3-on-a-plate tuners for slotheads (are you StewMac guys listening? ) ! I'm not aware of anything like this by Gotoh, but they may have come out with something since I last looked. If you find anything good, please let me know!
