I would appreciate some input from my fellow "forumites" in the area of machine head upgrades. The instrument is an electric, solid body, with tremelo. I have no experience with the current "locking" type tuners, although have seen many descriptions, especially of Sperzels. Among the units
i am looking at are
(1) the sperzels
(2) Gotoh 510's
(3) Schaller M6
(4) possibly the LSR units
After seeing so many well thought-out, beautifully crafted instruments on various posts on this site I felt that opinions of experienced builders would be a great aid in helping to decide on replacements for my project. Many thanks for any input on this question.

For sealed machines, my preferences, for the high-end (my 'standard' machine is a regular Gotoh, the cheaper M6-styled ones, work just great) are, in order:

1) Gotoh 510
2) Sperzel
3) Schaller M6

Gotta say that 2 and 3 are sort of tied, though, and it often boils down to an aesthetic choice. Both will do the job, and do it well. I've heard too many stories about machine failure with the LSRs to want to bother.

I got me some sperzels and i am pleased with the aesthetics, don't know much about their performance yet but will find out soon enough.

In locking tuners, I've used Sperzels, Grovers and Schallers. I like the locking mini Schallers best--good gear ratio, smooth operation.
