I glued my soundboard to the headblock today. This was done by removing material from the top of the headblock equal to the thickness of the soundboard.

I noticed several problems when I removed the clamps. The biggest issue is that the soundboard is not sitting level with the neck. It is level on the bass side and 1/32" below flush with the neck on the treble side.

I am thinking of starting over by ungluing the joint and leveling off the shelf. What's the best way to unglue the joint?

Momma's iron and a palette knife. good luck. Heat will allow the glue to release.

Hi Bruce. Hope your doing well.

Worked like a charm! I have been bummed all day thinking how ugly shims on the soundboard will look (my original solution).

I leveled off the shelf and glued a peice of 3/32" back on. Now I'm back to where I was before I screwed it up. I'll be much more careful this time!!

I'm not exactly sure what your process is, but I know I learned the hard way that it is usually better to leave the soundboard just a hair proud as opposed to flush, or lower. You can always sand a little more when you add the fingerboard, but if you're not careful, you'll end up shimming the fingerboard later. I learned that mistake the hard way.
