Hi all,

Some sad news from one of my friends and students yesterday (in the greater Toronto area), while at work someone broke into his home and stole two guitars, one he made with me, the other this tele I had made for myself, but he liked it so much he had to have it. As you can see, its pretty much a one of a kind, no serial number to speak of, but fairly easy to spot. Unfortunately I have no pix of the one he built, save to say its a mahogany/sitka 00 13 fret, 25.4 scale, Martin style headstock with gold Gotoh 301s, completely finished in tung oil and wax. It has no label or logo on it. There was other stuff that amazingly wasnt taken.

Any info as to its whereabouts, in order to return it to its rightful owner would be greatly appreciated. I know its a shot in the dark, but I have to try ....

Thanks in advance for any help

That sucks Tony... I was just talking to Sarah and she mentioned that on the bright side, that is a big indication of how valuable your guitars are. Someone breaks in.... leaves the jewelry, but takes the Karols.

If I see anything..... of course I'll let you know.

That stinks! I wonder if you could post a reward on Ebay? Somebody that's looking for a guitar might come across it! Just a thought!

Sad news.

I just got back home after several months away and one of my phone messages was from a client who's house was robbed, and among the things missing was a guitar I made for her.

Several messages later it was another much more enthusiastic message explaining that they got the guitar back and caught the guy. After the theft, my client had called all the local guitar and pawn shops with a description of the guitar, and sure enough, the guy brought it in looking to sell it.

The shop guys managed to keep him there long enough for the cops to get there and they arrested him. Yeah!

So Tony, have your friend make those calls. You never know.

Keep an eye out on ebay. Maybe whoever took isn't the smartest hammer in the toolbox and will list it there

Tony,

horrible news, I would suspect it is someone he knows like the other guys here, great pawn material. Turn this into the local police with photos. The police keep pretty good eyes on the pawn shops down here. Pawn shops have some reporting requirement, not sure what they are, worth checking into.

Good luck and I hope you find them

Tony, that sucks. Was I in Toronto yesterday? Yeah, er, well, sort of, well, I can't remember, er, can I call my lawyer?
The good news is that that tele will be easy to spot in a pawn shop. Maybe I'll but it on the way home and sell it back to you.

Tony, that really blows chunks. If you haven't done so already, post this at the Lost, Stolen, and Strayed forum over at Acoustic Guitar Magazine. Here is the link. This will help get the players looking for it as well as the builders. Hope it is returned and the thief is caught.Don A38903.8978240741

This is a relatively inexpensive way to "protect" your instruments. of course, it won't prevent them from being stolen adn is only as good as the availability of scanning equipment wherever they end up after being stolen.

I don't think that would help. Some of these thieves would still find a way to steal.

Tony, my heart goes out to you and your client...but, man, I can't even get anyone to STEAL my guitars! I do hope they catch the thief and make him sit thru 72 straight hours of Lifetime television or something equally cruel!

Tony, I hope you guys can find the guitars...it is a real shame that people can stoop so low.

I think it's worth a try...anyone who steals is a lowlife...anyone who steals that which makes music deserves to have that ability removed as well. That's like kidnapping a child for crying out loud! Second thought...Forget the hands...off with his head!

Thieves are the scum of the earth. No lower life form than one who would steal someones guitar.
Good luck getting them back.
