Hi guys.
It's been a while and I have been busy doing some traditional as well as different stuff. I hope this doesn't offend, it's ART after all. All pearl, no photos!

Here are some recent pieces for a variety of luthiers- some OLFer's, some not..

The light house and sun, about the size of a quarter, came out really cool due the the piece of gold pearl looking so much like a sunset sky. There was a night black pearl piece that went on another guitar to be a sister piece inlay. Both captured the mood in a cool way.

The ARK logos are based on original designs by the luthier, sent to me as files for translation into inlay,
and the Maui girl is for John Decker (founder of Rainsong graphite guitars- he builds classicals in his own time out of traditional materials for clients- 6 a year he says). Each girl is going to be a little different, like each guitar, so there are more girls in the future. This is his own copywrited design, again translated into pearl by me, so don't use it for yourselves!

More soon it's been a busy summer!
Craig L.

in greater detail I'll e-mail you a pic. I hate this small file size loading although I understand why it's needed. That girl is 37 pieces, all of which are lost in that small image. The crown is "studded" with about 20 solid gold dots around the base as well, which got lost in translation!

Craig.

Craig that bottom picture (great work by the way) is only 59kb you can go up to 150kb on the forum.

Craig,

I know that in marquetry, you can "dip" a tip of a piece of veneer into very hot sand, and burn a deeper color into it, to provide a color tone gradient for shading and/or to fake 3D. Obviously, that does not work with shell, so you had to find the color gradients yourself in the raw shell. What particularly caught my eye was how you used color to get the depth in the girls legs.

Are the details on the girl scribed? Or cut and filled?

This is a lot more than precision shell cutting and assembly, this is some beautiful art! Yes, I'd like to see bigger photos. HateJunqMale at Hotmail dot com

Thanks for sharing!

Dennis

Great work Craig. Am I correct in assuming that your site has this work in larger format?
