Building my first guitar using a basic steel string LMI kit which includes black plastic binding. The bindings are not holding with Titebond. Probably predictable given that Titebond is a wood glue, but I thought it might still be suitiable. Not so. So do I just use a general purpose plastic/timber adhesive??

I use Duco - available at my local True-Value hardware store. Works on both plastic and nitro celluloid.

I can attest the Duco works well too. Ace Hardware carries it. Hoffman turned me on to it. I like that syringe idea.

My dogs are small and I use Frontline Flea and Tick stuff on them. By purchasing the biggest dog size and sucking it into a syringe like the one above, I can do the entire neighborhoods dogs and do.... love that stuff.

Thanks for that tip Terry, I'm gonna do that for sure. I hate the color of dried duco and rosewood all over my fingertips.

Frank, I use the LMI - FCA Adhevisve. You will find it on their web site. Made specifically for glueing plastic to wood and wood to wood, works really well here and I have found it works well on bending cracks and gap filling as well.

That's what I use too. Works well.

I recently switched from the "normal" duco, weld-on adhesives to Roo Gloo
Clear for Melamine. It acts like Titebond and does not smell but holds plastic
to wood extremely well. No fumes and great holding power! You can get it at

I've used the Weldon 16 with no difficulty, but the on the
back of the guitar, where I'm not worried about thin stuff staining the wood, I use the method of taping the binding down and then spot gluing with thin CA, after which the tape is removed and all remaining gaps are glued. A lot less messy than my Weld-On technique, which is not as dainty as Terry's shown above

Thanks everyone for your replies. One of the constraints is that I am in Australia and the LMI and Stewmac glues cannot be shipped by air. But I was able to find something similar to the Duco Cement in our local hardware. The range of general purpose adhesives is overwhelming - they all include a long list of materials that they work well with but plastics are always limited to "some plastics" - so it is hard to be sure - I will just have to try it.
I like the syringe idea for application and got some cheap disposables from the local pharmacy/chemist.vandenboom38921.340462963
