OK, I threatened to do this in another thread not long ago...but I'm trying to gauge interest in an OLF gathering in my approximate area.

Several builders expressed an interest in an earlier thread. They were from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia...but anyone willing to travel would be more than welcome!

I offered to "host" the gathering, and I certainly will...but I can tell you that my "shop" would not be a place that we could gather to do anything, it is simply too small - so I'll have to find space to have the event itself. If someone thinks there is a better facility, more neutral location, or would prefer to host the event itself...just say so. Otherwise, I'll assume it is me and plan accordingly based on the information gathered in this thread.

I'm on the NC/SC line, about 45 minutes South of Charlotte, in a little town called Kings Mountain. That will give you an idea of how far you'll have to drive if you want to participate.

If you'll weigh in on this thread, with your approximate location, thoughts, ideas, etc., I'd be appreciative. Thanks.

Bill

Absolutely! The Shelby Municipal Airport is actually rather nice...for a small town airport. Here's a link with some information on it: (I've never done a link before, bear with me)

http://www.airnav.com/airport/EHO

Anyway, I could certainly pick you up, or arrange for a car to be there for you, or something like that. No issue at all. The airport itself is probably 15-20 minutes from my house.

It's a little over 1100 miles from my house. If I went a little out of my way I could swing south and pick up the other Dave R. then on to Arkansas picking up Bruce and Paul then over to Beebe to pick up the old man. What do ya think guys??

Don't check into Enterprise...surely I can find a way to get you to my house. That's not going to be an issue I don't think. If/when you find out the other details, etc., I WILL find a way to get you to the gathering. It would be my pleasure.

Chris:

As soon as some dates are able to be put together I'll be in touch asap...but to be really honest, I doubt anything will be put together before April 9th.

Don't know if I can get down to Hilton Head anytime soon, but I genuinely appreciate the offer. Sounds like a good time.

Any idea about drive time from east Tennessee? I haven't bothered to get a map out myself - too lazy. Might be do-able for me and I would be happy to consider picking others up on the way.

I would be very interested. I'm in Pittsboro, NC about 15 miles south of Chapel HIll.

Bill,

I'm just up the road in Charlotte. I'd love to attend.

Charlotte? I work in Gastonia, and I'm through/in Charlotte all the time...we should meet somewhere just to put a name and face together. Let's make it a point to do that sometime soon, regardless of the "mid-atlantic" OLF gathering.

OK Bill, You know you can count me in!

Are we talking about a weekend thing?

I have a few limitations, in that, with my boys having scouts, and ball games, which I’d hate to miss!

I’m gonna have to check with my wife on dates and such, but, I’m sure I can work this out!

Red, looks like I’ll be driving right through your neck of the woods, so’s if’n ya need a ride, ya got one!

I’m coming from Ellijay, GA., about 60 miles NNE of Atlanta.

Robert

Donovan:

I don't know exactly where you're located, but Knoxville is about 3 hours (give or take a few minutes), and it's slab all the way...that'll give you some idea of an approximate time I hope.

Just bringing this back to the top in case there are anymore folks who haven't seen it. I know there are several others that are close by.

I would be interested, even if I don't have anything to offer from a knowledge standpoint, depending on the date.  I'm in Charlotte too.

Hey, what'dya know...we've got the makings of a decent "Charlotte" contingent. Waddy, we'll have to hook up too...if for nothing else than to discuss how much we don't know. Thanks for weighing in!

Yeah, that could be a productive meeting - I mean laying out all that stuff we don't know.  I have volumes all by my lonesome.  But lets work something out.  My email is in my profile.

All you mid-atlantic gatherers who are watching this thread, please contact others in our area that you may know who might not have seen the thread, but might want to participate. I'm going to let it run through the weekend to catch folks who might be working out of town, or not posting much, or sick, etc.

In the meantime, if you folks wouldn't mind giving me some idea of the month you'd like to do this in, I would appreciate it.

Right now, if I had to guess, we're probably only talking about a long day. Gather in the morning, have a nice lunch, have a guest lecturer in the afternoon for a couple of hours, swap/show discuss guitars, then a decent dinner, etc. and go. That would not, of course, prohibit anyone from arriving a day early, or staying overnight...and I would be more than willing to help make sleeping arrangements, etc. Maybe we can throw in a small prize, or two, for certain people like (those traveling the farthest distance, the newest builder, "best guitar present", etc.)...and who knows, maybe a surprise here and there. We'll make it fun!

I'll start things off and ask "is April too soon to do this?"    I've got two kids in school myself, and with vacation plans coming up, etc., I don't want to wait too long to get this gathering on people's calendar.

So toss your .02 into the ring...

Bill

I’m with Red, April’s fine, but, got to be a Saturday, or Sunday

I can’t on the 14th, however, I’m good for the 21st, 22nd or 28th, 29th
