This has been my most difficult build, mostly because it was my first Venetian cutaway. I made the radius too small. While the walnut side bent easy enough, the koa binding and the maple purfling was a real pain. I had to do it twice. Then I sanded through the binding on the back and had to do that over also. Anyway, it plays and sound very nice. It is cedar top on walnut, with koa binding, maple purfling, spalted maple rosette and butt wedge. The finish is satin water based.

You may have had some troubles along the way but looking at the end result leaves no doubt in my mind that your efforts have been well justified.

I build up the mahogany with the heel and angled headstock.
Then I saw it in half and run it through the belt sander to square and level it out.
Next I prepare the inner strips with the heel block and angled head stock.
Then I glue up the 5 pieces.
It took me a while to develop the process.
It makes perfect transitions.

Congratulations, Steve! Looks like you did a great job pulling it out of the wreckage and persevering to a very nice final product.

I love walnut and koa together, and that's some very nice looking wood you got there.

Very nicely done. Looking at your cutaway, I can imagine the trouble you must have had bending all that stuff--especially the maple. I've done a couple of necks just the way you pictured yours, and they do look nice.

This guitar sounds good. My first guitar is the same size (000) without the cutaway, cedar on EI rosewood. The IE rosewood has a bit deeper tone. This walnut guitar has great sustain, develops lush overtones, has deep bass and a real sweet sound. It is a 24.9 scale. I like it a lot.
Walnut is great to work with.
