Yup, you read well guys and gals, i started guitar no 3 and Mandolin no 1!

Guitar no 3 will be an OLF SJ and my Mandolin will be an F5

Here are a few pics of my humble beginnings

About to cut my first pattern, i cut the contour with cisors and glued the paper on very thin plexiglass



Now, the clean up... oh well, maybe tomorrow!

Yeah, i was kind of being messy there with my hammer, on my plan eh?

It felt really good to feel some wood once again, there will be one more guitar and 2 more mandos added to these 2 projects, Mark Tripp motivated me in doing so when i saw pics of his numerous projects, i think i can do it too, it will help me stay focussed while bathing in the methodology and practice me thinks.

Serge, will your F-5 be made of the traditional woods?
Spruce / flamed maple?
Wonder how ash would work for a mando.....
(It would at least match your guitar. )

Yes, tradition there, i have the maple but not the spruce yet! That white ash will make a very lovely SJ when combined with a red cedar top and ebony bindings, i forgot to take a pic of the wood that i'll use for the neck, it needs to be identified, i'll try to remember tomorrow!

You bet i'm gonna bug him some along with Arnt and Mark and anyone who builds them fine instruments, gonna need all the help i can get to achieve this, especially when i think of all the scrolling involved! It really is a different beast according to what i'm reading so far but i love challenges!

Serge, you make me feel like the slug I am....you are just pumping out these things now!! I hope to get this one finished this winter. I think I fuss too much over getting set up...oh well!! I have that book also, Siminoff is one of my customers and we made a deal on an autographed copy. The is the second version of the book and really is the mando bible IMHO. Roger is certainly an authority on the instrument. Can't wait to see the final product!

Thanks Anthony, i love to make my friends feel right at home and you're soooo right, it was DANG TIME! The funniest part, as i was sanding my wood on the drum sander, i was wondering why i stayed out of my shop that long. Needed to gather some inspiration i guess... Prepare for more pics!

Wow Serge ,A SJ AND a mandolin. Cool! You can do it ,No Problem! In the Gal. magazine starting with issue #75,there is a 5 part hands on mandolin building series with Don MacRostie. Check it out,and Good Luck with your new projects buddy.

They also have a mandolin making segment on the DIY network. It is pretty abreviated by interesting none the less....

Serge, I haven't been in my shop much lately.I'm so dang busy at work,but at least I'm making a little zoot money! I would rather show it on the forum when it's complete. whenever that will be!   Hopefully not too long.I'm starting on the neck carving next chance I get

I'm going to build one of everything, Serge!

I don't know a thing about a mandolin, but have a friend that plays. My fingers are too big. I might make a mandola also (or instead of).    My initial plans, when I began this nightmare, were: build one to learn some techniques; build two for my sons; build one for my brother; build a really nice one for me;(all guitars) Then I want to make an electric, based on the Benedetto(?) arch top; I also want to make a lap steel, or perhaps a Dobro. By the time I get to the lap steel, I'll be sooooooo old, I won't even have a lap anymore.

BTW these plans are subject to change.
