Although 6-pack rings might work well, I generally use coffee or peanut can lids. They tend to be just the right thickness for my fret slots; tight enough to stay put but not difficult to get in or out. The little strips of plastic keep the Titebod I use from getting into the fret slots, and also exclude all the dust and other stuff. I put them in as soon as the slots are cut, and only take them out when I'm ready to put the frets in. IMO it's a lot easier to keep the glue out than it is to remove it once it's in, even if it's fresh. Besides, I don't have compessed air.
