I am still trying to figure out your advice Mr. McCollum... inside joke I missed?

Love your instruments by the way. You were one of the guys who inspired me to get on the road to where I am now when I graduated highschool.

[/QUOTE] MAtty,
There is no inside joke that I see.
If you have not built at least 10 guitars then your questions are rather premature. Building great guitars is very hard, requires a lot of knowleedge and skill about wood, tools, joining and finishing. How can you know if you want to do this unless you have been pushed around a bit by the building process.
Selling and marketing your guitars will be another essential skill.
How may have you built?
Start building and being involved in this forum and ask your questions again after you have completed 10 guitar that you are happy with the sound, playability and finish.
That's my take and perhaps what Mr. McCollum was getting at, but I'm not sure.

Matty are you in Colorado and was in in Maine? If so PM me. I ask this because you sound like someone know well but lost contact with.
If who think you may be, you have the skills and background to do well in this business. I know from seeing your work and hearing many, many very high compliments from builders I resect very much You have the builds and now time for you to get serious and settle in and do it. Jumping in and out of this isn't going to get you there. It will be time consuming and that is where you need to learn and stick with it. Your skills are there, but your fire in the belly to do it hasn't been.

If not who think and you are sure your ready go for it. It again takes time and no magic pill. Hard work, many many ups and downs and dedication. In business whatever it is, you make it on skill, dedication and many umpaid hours of work. You make your own chops not other for you

regardless of which Matty you are...good luck! The market will eventually determine whether or not you make "good" instruments. I think the important thing to remember is to make sure you have a backup plan.
