Dave,
I got mine from Lee Valley, you can order them off the web from their website. These fastners are cheap and very easy to use. They got me re-thinking the dovetail thing!

Anyway here is the link to the page, I even did the US link for you!

Thanks Shane! The prices on the Lee Valley inserts are quite a bit cheaper than anything I have bought at Ace.

What size insert are you using?

I've got inserts from Lee Valley, 1/4", both longer (upper insert) and shorter (lower insert) versions.

Dave,

The inserts are just a smidge over 3/4", the longer ones in the picture. You are going into end grain so my thinking is get as much grab as you can, within reason. I bought both size bolts (not the large head ones but the regular head ones) and I think that the longer ones, about 1 9/16" are the better option. With about 3/4" of wood on the neck block the bolt will just reach the full length of the insert. Hope that helps.

Also I just emailed you, I need your address to ship you your tops!

Thanks

Shane

Shane, I just emailed you my address.

Since everything is in mm's on the page you posted, can you tell me which part number you are using?

Currently I am using the brass inserts from Woodcraft and they don't seem to me like they would be as strong as the ones pictured here. And they are definately not as inexpensive as the ones Lee Valley has.
