Hey guys,

Also, you may want to attempt to compare the CTH Luthiery $70 Foredom copy to Grizzly's $50 Foredom copy. I'd rather buy from Craig as he's a forum sponsor, but before I knew he was selling them, I was considering this relatively less expensive Grizzly model:

John, I bought an Asian 1/3 hp Foredom knockoff on eBay for about USD$70. I've only used it for inlay thus far and it worked great. Mine has a 1-inch diameter (roughly 3-1/4") long hand piece with a chucked end. My only complaint so far is the base I made for it which I am in the process of rebuilding this weekend (that will be adaptable for cutting rosettes). I am not sorry I bought it as opposed to laying out $250 for a real Foredom for the amount I use it. Even if it prematurely craps out I'll just buy another knock off.

I don't know what diameter the StewMac handpiece is that fits their router base, so if you are considering purchasing one from Craig you might want to ask what the diameter is if you want to use the StewMac "Precision Router Base".Anthony Z38730.761099537

THe one Craig sells is similiar, a different colour. He told where he buys his and I know that he doesn't make much money on these but I thought I should support him anyway, knowing first hand how hard it is to get a small business going. The kit includes your regular assortment of a ton of differnet grinding bits and stuff. The hand piece is key chucked and the handle is not threaded like the dremel which is too bad because I used the threads on my dremel felx shaft to make my circle cutter. The handpiece is removable so can be replaced but I don't know if it is interchangable with foredom handpieces. I was at Lee Valley yesterday ad noticed foredom handpieces for $90 to $110 CDN. So I too have to make a new base for it to see how it performs. The destructions state that this unit is 1/4 hp. Once I get going with it I will let you know what I think. Oh ya...Craigs $70 price includes shipping, even to me in the frozen north....raining today...

Shane
