It did sound a bit like frustration speaking rather than dogma. I used to blame all the ills of "functional" architecture on those esthetically-impaired grumps at the Bauhaus--until I finally looked closely at what the originators of that movement actually conceived and built. THEY understood the beauty of a clean line, and were, as I understand it, responding to the excesses of Art Nouveau. It was their followers and imitators that messed it up.
