Thanks guys for all the very kind comments. A good ego stroking is good to help one get through the day.
Al and Mark: You can steal it if you wish, I don't have any kind of copyright on it. I did put an obscene amount of time working on it. The design comes from my headstock shape. There are two mirror images of the headstock at the tailpiece. The endgraft itself is really just the negative space between the two. That said, I think it would look pretty strange on another guitar. An afterthought if you will. I know how it is when you see something you like and right away think "man, I've got to put that on my guitar". I would however encourage you to avoid that temptation and really design your own elements. they will flow much better as a whole unit.

BTW: I've got space reserved in a recording studio this Sunday so we'll see how things come out of that.

That's catalyzed poly finish. Tony Ferguson does it for me as the city of Madison is not keen on people spraying yucky stuff into the air. And since I don't have $50k for an EPA spray booth, I send them away.

No not UV cured. It's a two part catalyzed. Sort of like epoxy. You mix part a and part b and have a certain amount of time to get it on the guitar before it goes off.
It's not out of reach for the average guy. I know John Watkins has used it with great success. If I were able to spray here I'd be using it as I think it's a superior finish to anything I've seen.

That is one nice guit box there Paul. That all Mahog sure looks better than I expected. Very well done.

What you doing for finish?

Oh, killer neck joint, just flawless.

A thing of beauty Paul. I love a hog top. It's one of my favorite guitars. I'll bet it's nice and warm, but allows you to pinch a nice bite out of it.

Great guitar,

Awesome is all I can come up with. I am going to try an end graft like that with free form. I amagine there is no secret. You must create the inlay and then simply rout by hand??

Simply gorgeous Paul. I love the elegant look of mahogany. Beautiful workmanship as we have come to expect from Woolson Soundcraft.

Outstanding!!! I know I risk sounding like a broken record, but it has to be said, that end-graft is absolute MINT!!!

actually that neck joint is easy, you just hold the mirror up to it at the right angle as you take the picture and it looks like its on a guitar. Right, right??? come on that is the secret isn't it. Either that or it grew that way. Seriously I have to say that is some very impressive wood working there..   A guitar that looks that good doesn't really have to sound good, but I bet it does.

Paul,

I was only kidding - I wouldn't copy that. That would be like using your signature! You have indeed shown me a different way to look at design elements though. The graft is so "outside the box", but soooo elegant.

I love it! Very inspiring!

Mark, my appoligies. It's very hard to tell, in an email type format, when someone is joking or not.
I think I'm blessed to have a design background like I do. It allows me to view the guitar as a whole and not just as a bunch of parts that I happen to like. In my opinion, it makes a stronger overall design.
Again, thanks all for your kind comments.

Beautiful work, Paul. Can't wait to play it.

Following up on the finish question, it's not "poly"-urethane, it's just urethane, and there are 3 parts; the urethane, the reducer, and the hardener.

This is the same stuff that's on your newer car. No one is using acrylic lacquers anymore. Even House of Kolor is discountinuing them and going all pre-cat Urethane.
