Thanks again, guys, for your thoughts and opinions.
And your concern is almost palpable. But there's no time left to fix this before the show--I ship out tomorrow.
Pull the board? I've done that once, and will ne'er do again. That particular guitar comes back regularly with finish problems betwixt the new board and old neck--which are fixed under a lifetime warranty clause. Yes, I'm looking forward to dying.

If this bothers the customer (the inlay, not my death) I'd rather rout it all out and redo a new inlay that covers up all the old inlay spots.

Wish me luck--

Steve

Jim, I haven't forgotten your question about worm holes.
I first glued some small cleats on the inside of the guitar: sides & back. I didn't want whatever was used to run all over the insides.
Next I painted some shellac around the holes on the outside.
Then, I jammed some charcoal into the holes and soaked the filled holes w/ thin CA. That step had to be repeated more than once. I wanted a dull black fill when scraped flush. A little lacquer painted over the hole then revealed if indeed the job was done.

I should add that other colors could be used besides black. But my thinking was that those holes might as well be advertised, as there is no real disguising them. When the beetle bored in, he left a faint black ring around the hole anyway. To have used red, a black circle would have shown around the red fill. You can eliminate that by drilling out the hole even further, but then you will have a larger hole to fill.

You can always try different approaches on some of the "extra" holes that fall outside the guitar's outline. Cut out the shape, and then experiment on those holes that Bob sent you for free.

Good luck,

Steve
