It is amazing how much difference .2 or even .1 millimeters can make! Take it down to .0825 (about 2.1 mm) and you'll see/hear/feel a world of difference.
Good luck.

I take it you are bending a venetian as well ?? I would go more like 70 thou there, more if its a tight one.

If this is a dry wood, ie loses moisture easy when bending, I would wrap in foil ( i always do anyway, I have blue spring steel which stains if I dont), forget the paper. The moisture cant really escape the foil, and the bend will be easier. In the fox, I am a bit slower then mentioned above, more like 1/2 to 3/4 turn every 30 seconds or so. Then go really slow with the spring caul on the upper bout - the lower never seems to be a problem, it can go much faster.

Also are using a backing slat? I mean a piece of steel on top of the wood to give support. This wouldn't help with the waist cracks you show but it will with the cut away.

I will also second several motions made here;
Try HHG or even white glue for a more invisible repair.
Wrap your sides in tin foil it seems to help keep the moisture in.
Make em thinner. Much thinner at the cutaway.
Go slow.

I had similar trouble with bubinga sides and the above steps help me get the job done.

Good luck

Thin the sides more, (.075" - .080") Don't use too much water as this will tend to weaken the crossgrain in the figure but do use the craft paper slightly wet. Use good heat 280°-300° and most of all, take your time and go slow. Are using spring support on the waist and cutaway? If not, I highly recommend it for figured wood.

Thanks guys for all your input. I am using slats and next time will thin the wood a bit more.... The Zootman is sending me another set....don't think I'll be able to salvage this one!

live and learn....

Peter, i'd go with Tony's advice, 0.070" wrapped in foil and maybe some kraft paper inside the wrap as well if that woood loses it's humidity fast, just a thought!

Good luck with the cutaway bro!
