I would guess Bubinga also, though for the record, I have seen Redwood that looks a bit like this and would NOT recommend it for back and sides. Very unstable.

Are you saying you would not use redwood like that specifically, or any wood that looks like that in general?

You can't learn unless you make mistakes. Some people can build with this wood, others can't. I wouldn't, only because I don't like Bubinga. :) It's the one wood that I've built with that I didn't like the sound of in my guitars.

For all these beginning builders, my advice is: build with anything and everything you can get your hands on (now!), because if you become famous or semi-famous (and busy), you won't have the chance to use some of the more exotic woods. That's part of my reputation - being able to build weird instruments and use weird woods, while maintaining consistency.
