You betcha, Mike. Man I love all his early stuff especially. I think I have 8 or 9 CD's of his. I still have his first 3 on 8-track.

To tell you the truth, Serge, hearing her sing nearly makes me cry, it is so incredibly beautiful. I really do believe, when I hear her sing, that it must be an angel.     Corny? maybe, but I'm serious. (Linda Ronstadt used to affect me this way too.)

I am with both of you on that, voice of an angel for sure. Allison Krauss is one of my favorites.

Ron, I love playing the old Redbone tunes, I have been a big fan of his 30's sound for many years.

How about Chet Atkins - he can sure pick a guitar!

Oh yeah, Mike. I'm a big Chet Atkins fan, too. Always wanted to learn to play that style, but, so far, I've managed to NOT do it. I'm basically lazy. I've learned very little NEW stuff since the seventies. In the 70's, I was mostly in to Kenny Rogers and used to play and sing all his stuff. On the country side, I mostly tried to do Marty Robbins. The only Redbone tunes that I actually sing are "Ain't Misbehavin" and "She Ain't Rose".

Serge, I agree again on the Krauss' song you mentioned. It's a beauty.

That's pretty hard to keep it to just 3. For right now though, I'd go with:

Gillian Welch
Sage Francis (hip hop)
Leo Kottke

And as a note, I saw Willie Nelson at Red Rocks last night, and he was
the bee's knees! His guitar chops have really gotten good too. I don't
remember his playing ever sounding so good. Must be that big hole in
his top

Gotta agree with that. Allison has a voice so pure with such control, yet so full of emotion.

Segovia (or ealier Bream)
Bruce Cockburn
Miles Davis

3 artists and 3 genres covers most moods...one exception is that when I am building Flamenco I play nothing but Flamenco (earlier Paco De Lucia, Sabicas, Tomatito w. Camaron)

Here of late I have been listening to a lot of Michael Chapdelaine (Land of Enchantment, Replay and Replay Revisited) If you like contemporary classical guitar give Land of Enchantment a try. It is a splendid listening experience. Here is a clip of Land of Enchantment

I'm a big Pat Metheny fan.

Anybody heard his solo album on Linda Manzers baritone?

"One Quiet Night"

Gives me chills.

Now class, can you determine what is wrong with the above statement?

For me, it's blues, old and new.

i build lots of flamenco guitars and through my costumers i got to know some great players and fall in love with a few of them:
tomatito's "aguadulce",
vicente amigo's "un momento en el sonido" & "ciudad de las ideas".
gerardo nunez "calima".

when in need of something less up-beat, something to get me in the mood for patiently sanding the guitar, i always find myself reaching for Al Di Meola's "orange and blue", Damien rice's "O" and Iron&Whine's "our endless numbered days".

Udi.
