Hey Matt we are in the neck jig club, I don't use mine that often for most fret work but when I need it I am so glad I have it, nice shop.

OK, I got some pics of my rat hole of a shop. This is more embarrasing than I'd realized it would be. I do like Scott's line about "group therapy", and will approach it that way.
By the way Bruce, I feel fairly certain that my ribbing was taken in the good humor in which it was intended? Truth be told, I'd rather work in your shop any day than step into mine! And, I believe I would actually die if a customer were to insist on seeing my shop. I must, I must clean it up.

Here's the downstairs part, where the bulk of the dust is generated:

And upstairs, which is supposedly where the fine work is completed, but as it turns out, even more dust is manufactured.

Now let me jump threads and post a shot of the outside. We had a pretty good Spring around here, and the azaleas put on a good show:

Don't be cruel....

Alright guys,

I've been looking at y'alls shops and messes that you've created for
yourselves and I have to say that I'm very envious. When you see my shop
you might just pee yourselves. Well...here it is.

You may be asking yourselves, "is that a washer and dryer that he's
testing his newly made go bar deck next to". Another question you may
be asking is, "is that outside". The answer is yes my friend. Welcome to
Hawaii the most expensive place for housing and land in the world.
Alright maybe not the world but pretty darn close. Everything I use from
band saw to drum sander is mobile and stored everytime not is use. Talk
about a mess you should see when it rains.

So the next time your sweeping your shop and are disgusted by dust and
your mess just know that I'm raking leaves out of mine and trying to
avoid warping my wood in the sun.

Ross

Rossy, you now have my admiration my friend, i'd only trade my shop with yours for one thing though and it's the sun!

Please show us some pics of the bandsaw and drum sander in action when you have a chance!

Thanks

Serge

I'm with Don, Red Ennis, I too was LMAO. You are a card.

Steve K. you sir, are a man after my own heart. Your shop looks great, a sort of organized chaos oxymoron kind of thing.

Things are not always as they seem. How we bring to birth these masterpieces of music from such humble settings is truly amazing isn't it. Steve K. as you can see, my shop changed greatly in three years.

I knew I was getting somewhere though at about two years in. My sixteen klemmsias had a small rack. My rolls of masking tape all stacked neatly. Most hand tools have a spot of permanence. When I walked in the door and saw the organization, it hit me, wow, this is a real shop, making real guitars.

Going back and finishing number one this past week has done something for my psyche. Nothing like finishing a project in the works since 1999. And the same is true of the shop, getting it work ready or having something set up and working nice, gets us one step closer to better more efficient work. That makes it fun.

Thanks everyone for sharing. Okay you deadbeats, it's up to you to keep this thread alive!

Red, I only got 1 or those pix. The last one, the one with your fretting hammer. Which, I'm convinced, must do a masterful job of persuading stubborn fret wire.
I tried right clicking all the other little boxes (with the red X's in 'em) to no avail.

What's up with that?

Ross--nice try, but you're not going to generate any sympathy here. The fact that your mess is located in Hawaii cancels out any of the hardship factor.

Steve

I'm with Steve on this one. I am only able to see the last pic in Red's post. The rest all show up as little red x's.

Right size string nips, The right tunner lubricant but I am not sure the fret hammer is big enough for a dreadnaught fret job
