I registered without a problem. One concern though: I didn't enter any credit card info, but I did notice that this is not a secure site, so I would warn everyone NOT to enter cc info.

Ron
The data is stored securely in an encrypted db behind a firewall. However, we are working with the software vendor to get our secure certificate wired up. This was an oversite.

Call it commercial or not, I like it very much. I see it as one more valuable
resource specific to our trade. The forum is a great place for sharing
ideas and information, and the auction site seems a perfect companion to
provide a seperatee place for trade. I know that personally, I have plenty
of old parts, tools and such laying around that I would love to get rid of
(and help subsidize the cost of the replacements). This seems much
better eBay, because I would like to see them go to good use with people
I know here. And I've never wanted to list things like this for sale on the
forum because I didn't want to taint it with trade and sales. Anywho, it's
there and I'm glad about it.

But Lance, the real reason I was posting was to let you know that I see the
same enlarged logo covering the buttons in my Safari browser that some
others saw in Firefox.

I took a screen shot but I can't get it to post. I'll email it to you.

I'll reserve judgement, but as an overseas guy probably wouldn't use it anyway, usually buy from European and home grown suppliers and from OLF sponsors directly. If run as said though it shouldn't affect the forum.

Just really wanted to say that on Netscape as well the logo obscures the left hand three buttons about halfway.

Lance/Brock,
for me this is a non-issue. Keeping the two sites separate is the logical
answer to any concerns anyone here might have. I just completed my
registration at the new auction site and received my verification email
almost instantaneously. As with the entire internet, you need to use good
judgement. After 62 years I'm not naive, but I feel like I know the integrity
of many of you just by reading your posts and the ways in which you
conduct yourselves. I'd like to think this integrity will spill over into the
new site. I'm not worried about unscrupulous characters migrating to the
site. With the relatively small, tight community here, they will quickly be
exposed. And as far as anyone's concerns about becoming too
commercial -- truth is, it takes mony to keep anything afloat. That's just
the way it is. I just admire the amount of work, creativity, and effort Lance
and Brock continually put into this. And if they make some money for all
their extreme effort, they deserve it.
My $.02.

Just registered -- I like the idea a lot.

Thought I'd add to what Colin and others have reported -- the logo hides the buttons in Mozilla also.

Best,

Michael

I made a small change to the LOGO file, let me know it its still hanging over the buttons.

Also, we have someone working on a new Logo, this is really just a place holder.

Lance,

It's better in Mozilla now. Still overhangs the blue banner and cuts off the tops of the buttons. But at least I can see that there wasn't anything under it I was missing.

Best,

Michael

Gee Lance,

I just had a look at the auction site. Bob has listed a set of lacewood for $25.00usd yet the converter on the site is quoiting $40.25au? That represents less than 60c in the dollar yet the current exchange is around 77c in the dollar, even yahoo are quoting around 75c, take a look for yourself HERE.

Anyhow, with the premium us Aussies pay for shipping things are tough enough for us even at the correct exchange rate but that is just brutal so I thought I would bring it to your attention.

Cheers

Kim

Lance,

I just a small point, but you might want to put some content into the terms and privacy policy pages.

Yeah, this will be coming.

I think for now we are hoping to work out any functionality bugs. We are going to put some more content in and tweak the design a bit.

Nice job on the site, BTW. I've been looking forward to it. No need to say what's already been said, philosophy-wise. With the auction site I don't forsee a change in the community and the level of fellowship and assistance that I've always had on the forum. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication to such a great forum!
What I'd like to see -remain- is a place where we are all free to mention other sources, to put up URL's, to put up the odd piece of whatever for sale, etc...
I agree. I think that almost all of us want that, and it's good to mention it once in a while because it's part of what makes the OLF unique. However, I haven't seen any move to change that at present. Remain vigilant, but please, go easy on the guys who are doing all of the work to make the Forum possible (I'm not just writing to Mario here!). They've earned the benefit of the doubt.

I'd like to see a "bidding history" on there like on eBay...just so I can watch Serge and Dave Bland bidding against each other...knowing who is bidding on something is half the fun!

Hey Lance...you should update the LuthiersAuctions sponsor's link up at the top now!Don Williams38968.6110416667
