I took of a top,by routing it off proud of the lining, When pulled it off, of course left spruce on blocks and some kerf broke. After inspection, decided to replace kerfing for varied reasons, but mostly for better contact when tuck braces and put on new top. Question, there is of course gap between top and rim. How much higher rim should I put new kerf? I know when do so, I still have to trim the new top to right width. This also is where I am confused, as there will still be a "kerf gap" between the top and rim where binding and purfeling is glued on. How do I redo the top for binding channels or do I? Do I just put in binding in gap and then trim excess? I don't know how I would do that without a channel to tape the binding and top together. I of course could simply take blocks down to rim, install kerf and put on new top as new and bind from there, but I think that makes the box thinner? Need some help here. I am in and out of hospital until further notice, but come home to rest and do other things each day and need to do this keep head on straight TIA |

Stan, First, why are you in the hospital? If I understand your problem, your worried about the gap that is left after you glue on your top, this gap is were the bindings will go correct? So long as that gap is not wider than your bindings, don't worry about it, glue on your top, and cut your binding channels as IF there were sides there, that will clean up the channel, then proceed to bindings. I'm not in hospital. My dad had a stroke and is in pretty bad shape. Mom isn't doing to well. I was supposed to leave for Maine in the morning to go to Bourgeois, but that is now off. If pulls through, I need to be here until he and mom can move to Springfield MO. where sis lives and has a place for them. I just want to be here for whatever happens. I just need on occasion to get here or in shop just to concentrate on something else. I hope to have prognosis by next week of what is going on. Since not going to Maine have other works in the fire. Dana is very cool and if want to try later, that is ok with him. Will see how goes here with him and some other things in works. Main goal now is the family situation. Would appreciate the prayers for him though. Thanks |

Stan, Parents are priority, glad to see you in there with them. My dad had a stroke last March and didn't pull out of it. Mom on the other hand is six years younger and in pretty fair shape. I took her for the first of two surgeries Monday to remove cataracts from her eyes. You are doing the right thing, it's not easy, but something most of us eventually face with aging parents. Please be comforted by the knowledge that many OLFers will be saying a prayer for all concerns Stan. Lord, help Stan, his Mom and Dad, his sister, the doctors, and the rest of the family, deal with these needs. Open doors that need to be opened and comfort them in Jesus Name, amen. |
