I'm wondering if anyone has ever tried any oil varnishes made by this company? They're supposed to be very good products, but I am hunting for the most hard, tough, oil varnish that I can find to experiment with for guitar finishes. Anyone????

I just started finishing a guitar with Behlen Rockhard. I put the first coat on yesterday over a couple coats of shellac. I plan on 1 coat a day sanding between each coat till I get some sort of build that I can polish. My guess after talking with Bruce Sexauer is about 8-10 coats. I thinned it just a little (didn't measure) till it seemed like it would flow without running. I didn't get any runs and it went on quite nice actually. I appearantly didn't get it quite as clean as I should have because I have a lot of stuff in the finish to sand out. It won't be a problem but it's something I don't want in the rest of the coats if I can help it. I cleaned the shallac with naptha on a rag and I think I just left lint from the rag on the shellac. Tonight I'll use a different tac cloth and hopefully won't leave that.
