Well, its after eleven on Sunday night and I should be in bed, but I just got a set of strings on my first guitar and I'm pretty excited. I've left the action a tad high to see if string tension moves the neck around, though the dovetail should keep it tight.

The guitar is a 0-16NY from John Hall and it has been a wonderful project. My wife, who can play and sing is geeked about the tone and sustain right out of the box.

Hesh has been bugging me to get some pictures together and I will by mid-week. Supposed to get some sunshine here this week and I'd prefer getting away from the flatness of a flash -- I'm a mediocre photog at best.

Anyway, hats off to John for putting together a great little kit. The 0 sized bodies are just about perfect for the living room!

Bruce is right, i won't be able to schleep untill you show her off now!

Happy for you Jim, sounds like this one is giving you a lot of joy huh? Best feeling is to string her up and play her first notes, hard feeling to beat and one good way to want to build the next one!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

Serge

Congrats, Jim!!

Ain't nothin' like the moment you hear that first timid cry, before she starts
to open up in the first minutes of life. Listen to her voice change and open
up over the next few days.

Thank you to everyone for the kind comments and the support you have lended over time as I have (and continue) read and learned from the forum.

Andy-- The 0-16NY is a discontinued Martin with an '0' sized body, 12 fret neck, 16 series appointments meaning pretty plain and in the original, usually strung with silk and steel strings. I used tortoise bindings, a pyramid bridge and bone nut and saddle as non-standard parts. The originals had 1/4" straight bracing and I used 1/4", but scalloped it in a manner that was all by guess and you know who .

There are plenty of warts. I did keep a building journal that I not so jokingly refer to as my book on how not to build a guitar!

I know that number two will be a quantum leap forward as I hope to not re-make most of my previous mistakes.

Here is a picture of Jane with the guitar. I will get more and closer shots on Wednesday and try to get them posted Wednesday evening.

Jim, that is a really cool looking guitar! Where did you find the plans fot it? Jane looks to be pretty absorbed in it, that must make you feel great!

Thanks again guys.

Dave-- The tracings, mold and pieces/parts came from John Hall. I was fortunate enough to mess about with a 1960's 0-16 at Elderly Instruments a few years back where the small body really got a hold on me and John was gracious enough to put the kit together.
