I dont build from plans per se, but recently completed a 13 fret, 25.4 scale, jumbo like model of mine called the Solo - this one was 16 3/8 lower bout, probably a bit bigger than the OLF SJ, not sure, never seen one). The tone was big and full, the jumbo bottom end being ever present but not boomy - I use tapered bracing. Anthony Zlahtic played the guitar before it got shipped to its new owner and was pretty wowed by the sound, considering it had been first strung up that morning. Basically the bracing was simply shifted, along with the soundhole placement, by the distance of the 14-13 fret. |

Bob...I have done the OLF-SJ 14 fretter mostly per the plan. If I were to consider doing a 12 fretter for this model, I would loosely follow how Martin makes their slope shouldered dred 12 fretter. In that case they have elongated the body slightly and narrowed and rounded the upper bout. The only critical issue in my mind is the positioning of the bridge plate and subsequent X-bracing. The bridge plate fall where it must based on the scale length and the x bracing lays out accordingly. A little wordy but to answer your original question...I'm not aware of any 12 fret SJ plans. Have you considered building a 000-12 fret model? If you do, I can help with comments based on experience of building 1.75 guitars of that model. |
