Laurent,

One of my all time favourite wood combinations . Lovely execution and workmanship like your other one. Any soundclips of this one?

Ah yes, another quick'n dirty recording -one static Neumann-type mic 2ft
from the guitar-, no overdub on this one.

My gosh, I really like the tone of this guitar, and the tune...GREAT WORK!!!

DADGAD tuning?

I have really got to break free from the habit of only playing in standard tuning.

My late new year's resolution is for my Avalon to be permanantly tuned to DADGAD. Sam Price39095.686875

Laurent that is truly elegant. Great wood combinations. There's something about a varnish finish that gives the wood a warm glow. Very nice indeed.

Laurent, you old trickster! I hope I can build a guitar that looks and sounds that good when I grow up. Great tone, fine playing!

I really like the guitar's quick attack. Could you tell us a bit about your bracing pattern and shape?

Carlton, here are a couple of pics of the guitar before closing the box:

1/4" braces, the finger braces around the soundhole are mortised under
the upper brace which is over 1/2" thick. Maple bridge plate. Final
thickness of the WRC top is around .110, thinner on the lower bout
perimeter. The back and side braces are from the same European cherry
board I made the neck, neck block and end block with.

Craig, comparing my work with Howard's, while flattering, is totally
unrealistic. I'm far from having this level of skill, nor would I do similar
work if I did, my aesthetic drive would lead me toward the other end of
the spectrum… This little 00, while pleasing me much with its sound and
general appearance, will reveal a few cosmetic flaws under scrutiny…

I recorded more samples of the guitar on my lutherie blog, along others.

Bob, yes I love varnish, at least Behlen Rockhard. So far it beautifully
enhanced all the woods I've been using. I can't imagine finishing a guitar
with anything else now although the process is time and labour intensive,
but everything has a price and there is never a free lunch…

Thanks for the information, Laurent. I guess no one could ever accuse you of over-bracing! Looks like a good example of how tall/thin/light can equal great sound.
